COAF Sport
The COAF Sports Complex, developed by the Children of Armenia Fund (COAF) near the COAF SMART Center and Concept Hotel in Lori’s Debet village, is designed as a comprehensive sports campus for both education and athletic activities. During early project discussions, our team evaluated two approaches: integrating the new complex within the existing architectural framework or designing an entirely new structure. Ultimately, we opted to seamlessly expand upon the architectural logic of the SMART Center, creating a cohesive complex that respects the original aesthetic.
Inspired by Lori’s breathtaking landscape of mountains, forests, and rock formations, we designed the sports complex to blend harmoniously with its natural surroundings. Constructing a modern sports building on challenging terrain presented a rewarding design challenge, prompting us to create smooth transitions from landscape to architecture, allowing the facility to naturally integrate with its environment.
The complex features both outdoor and indoor facilities that support a wide range of activities. Outdoor areas include multi-purpose courts for tennis, basketball, and volleyball, with spectator seating, a 60-meter running track, and a bike path. Indoors, a versatile hall accommodates international-standard courts for basketball, volleyball, tennis, and badminton, along with a gym, a 50-meter swimming pool, and a climbing wall. The complex is supported by essential service spaces like storage, changing rooms, and staff offices.
Given the steep terrain, the sports center is divided into two interconnected sections—one housing the main sports facilities, the other the swimming pool—connected by an elevator and stairs to ensure accessibility at every level. This modern sports complex allows students to engage in athletic pursuits alongside their education, promoting a holistic experience within the spectacular setting of Lori.
