Dargett Brewery
Dargett is Armenia’s first craft beer that started its operations at their own brewpub in 2016. After finding success, they set out to expand their operations and planned to open a modern craft brewery in Yerevan to increase capacity and take on the beer landscape. We were honored to be chosen for this interesting challenge and found ourselves googling craft beer factories immediately once we got the phone call from Dargett.
Interestingly, the team at Dargett knew exactly that they wanted: both a craft beer factory as well as a beer garden & restaurant. This clarity enabled to ultimately come up with a mirror design for the two separate spaces. We spent a lot of time on research and discussions with the client, since it’s not everyday that you design and build a craft brewery. We looked at some of the most state-of-the art breweries across the globe.
We knew we wanted an advertising platform or space incorporated into the building and that was a big dilemma. Spontaneously, after multiple discussions, we thought why advertise on a canvas or exterior of the building when the production and behind-the-scenes can be the advertisement itself? The concept of having a brewery on display evolved and found its place as the main feature of the final design for the Dargett Brewery. We completely covered the front of the building, where the production takes place, in glass. This opened up the brewing process for everyone to see and adheres to the concept of craft beer being art on display.
The production section and the restaurant are separated by a long and narrow open-air corridor that evokes emotion as you walk past the tall glass walls just like you’re walking in a valley surrounded by canyons. The corridor surrounded by glass and metal finally leads to the beer garden in the back. We also managed to house Dargett Headquarters and the office section on the second floor of the brewery. With this project, we tried to open our minds and find a new meaning for a brewery: a place where someone can see how the beer is brewed, and taste it afterwards.
