In&Out Workshop Exhibition

Public spaces are the foundation of modern urban life, a catalyst for communication, and a driving force behind societal processes. They represent domains of diversity and inclusion, belonging and indifference, participation and realization, self-expression and freedom. However, despite their vital role, public spaces are among the most vulnerable to the effects of abrupt urban transformations, unregulated development, and spatial encroachment—such as the transformations in Yerevan’s urban fabric in recent decades, which led to the reduction and/or degradation of public spaces.

Based on their field research and analysis, as well as thematic lectures and discussions held within the program, the workshop participants created a unique pavilion and presented their vision of the urban environment in an exhibition format.

To reflect on issues related to the environment, expand the professional discourse, and analyze the problem through various disciplinary lenses, we organized the “In and Out” workshop, which focused on researching Yerevan’s public spaces and improving and reinterpreting the urban environment based on a solid foundation.

Over several intensive weeks, more than 20 students conducted a detailed study of Saryan Street. Using over 10 research methods, including hundreds of mappings and interviews, they uncovered the street’s dynamic life, its sensory perception and impact, trends of transformation, and potential future scenarios.
