Gmbet

Gmbet is a reinforced concrete defensive structure designed to provide multi-layer protection for the front line, militias, and settlements in the border zones of Armenia during wars and military conflicts. The full-scale war of 2020 and the attacks by Azerbaijan in the following years brought significant challenges across various professional fields. Parallelly, during the Second Artsakh War, the Storaket team took charge of fortifying border settlements and increasing their defence capability.
In the post-war period, the study of the essence and impact of military operations, as well as the research of local and international experiences in defence, led to the idea of designing modular, easily implemented, and highly protective fortifications.

The 20th-century fortifications structure has not undergone significant changes compared to earlier periods, successfully performing their defensive role within the global military capabilities of their time. However, given the evolution of war and military technology, when active battles can proceed in all directions using drones and other aerial devices, it becomes necessary and inevitable to create a new type of defensive fortification that maximises the safety of both the military and civilian populations on the battlefield and in border settlements.

To rapidly furnish the newly formed borderline of the Republic of Armenia resulting from the 2020 war, the “Gmbet” initiative proposes a streamlined process for fortifying the border zones. This involves mass-producing dome components in different regions of Armenia, followed by transportation and assembly. The structural and technical solutions of the dome not only allow for fast and efficient implementation of defence infrastructures but also ensure the fortifications’ reliability and durability.

Gmbet features an oval curved surface with dimensional and structural characteristics that provide resistance and stability against attacks from all directions. Each dome consists of 8 segments, assembled from 3 types of modular elements: an entrance module, a closed module, and an opening module, which includes a window for combat and observation from within the structure. The segments can be selected and combined in various ways, making it possible to create fortifications that meet the requirements and geographical features of each border area. The process of producing and assembling the structure is carried out as quickly and easily as possible in different regions of the Republic of Armenia.
